The highest forest in Brittany
Overlooking the Trégor region, the Beffou forest rises to 322 metres at Le Pavé, the highest point in the region. This forest massif, classified as a sensitive natural area and managed by the Côtes d’Armor department, is home to a remarkable, well-preserved biodiversity. Hundred-year-old beech, oak, chestnut and yew trees, the sacred tree of the Celts, stand side by side with vestiges of the past, such as the covered alley at Brohet or theancient Roman road linking Carhaix to the legendary site of Yaudet, evidence of human occupation since the Neolithic period. Until the 18th century, the forest was home to intense metallurgical activity, as well as to clog-makers, who profited from the beech wood.
