The Sillon de Talbert: a geological curiosity

The Sillon de Talbert, a unique spit of coastline in Europe, is the result of millions of years of erosion and sedimentary deposits. This geological formation, unique in Europe for its size, offers a breathtaking natural spectacle. The Sillon is therefore naturally mobile, evolving over time as it is sculpted by the elements and the tides. Stroll along this string of sand and pebbles and soak up the wild beauty of this site. In 2018, a breach formed 400m from the shore, cutting off access to the Sillon de Talbert at high tide.

A remarkable biological heritage

The Sillon de Talbert is home to exceptional biodiversity, from seabirds to rare plants… Botanical enthusiasts will be delighted to discover around a hundred protected plant species, including blue thistle, sea cabbage and Ray’s knotweed. This coastal vegetation helps to make the Sillon de Talbert a nesting habitat for limicolous birds such as the Great Gravelot and the Interrupted-necked Plover. A paradise for birdwatchers, who can take advantage of the nature outings organized by the Maison du Sillon to discover this natural heritage along marked trails.

Birdwatching: an unforgettable spectacle

Armed with your binoculars, discover the birdlife of the Sillon de Talbert. Grebes, gulls, egrets… many species will surprise you with their elegance and agility. During migration and in winter, the foreshore is frequented by a multitude of birds in search of food, which take refuge in this quiet area. Beware: some species are protected, so please respect their peace and quiet, and watch where you step so as not to crush their eggs, which blend in with the pebbles!

An ideal spot for hiking…

With family or friends, the Sillon de Talbert is an ideal playground for hikers and walkers, with breathtaking panoramic views! From the lighthouses to the Bréhat archipelago and the mouth of the Trieux, you’re sure to get a great view! Beware of the tide: it’s important to find out when the breche will be passing through before venturing out onto the Sillon, so you can make the most of your walk. If you’re staying on the coast, you can also opt for the Sillon de Talbert loop, which offers some very pretty views of the reserve and beyond…

Starting from the pointe de Penn Lann, just south of the reserve, at low tide, the vast stretches of sand reveal their treasures. With your watch in hand, so as not to be trapped by the tide, and armed with your bucket and landing net, set off as a family to discover the riches of the foreshore. Clams, cockles, shrimps… seafood just waiting for you! Please note: respect regulations on minimum sizes, and take only what you need. And if you prefer to be accompanied, you can call on a guide or the Presqu’île Greeters.
