La Roche-Derrien

Immersion in a Small City of Character with a rich medieval past

The stronghold built in the 11th century on a promontory overlooking the Jaudy, the city is divided into two.
The lower town known as the “bas-du-pont”, that of the ragpickers, a real colorful colony, and that of the roofer’s who still resounds with their specific language, “tunodo”.
The lower town and in particular its port (one of the oldest on the northern coast) also bear witness to the city’s economic past thanks to the salt and wine traffic but also later with the transport of slate.
Then the upper town, Place du Martray, lined with beautiful Gothic houses and granite or timber-framed dwellings of notables from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
