Founded by the Lords of Keramborgne, it dates back to the late 15th or early 16th century thanks to its flamboyant Gothic decoration, and to the second half of the 16th century and the Renaissance.
In front of the chapel stands a cross known as the "calvaire du placître", the base of which is dated 1612.
Sainte-Barbe chapel has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1926. It is the only surviving chapel of the 24 in Plouaret.
