Ernest Renan, born in 1823, spent his first fifteen years living in a solid, picturesque timber-framed house dating from the end of the 16th century. A thinker and writer who demanded the right of free expression for historical and religious criticism, his influence was considerable. His home contains documents and memorabilia by the author of La Vie de Jésus and Souvenirs d'enfance et de jeunesse.
