Built on a promontory, the semaphore communicates with Bréhat to the east and Ploumanac'h to the west, and also provides surveillance at sea.

During the Second World War, the Germans used it as a base for coastal surveillance and defence, building major fortified works.
The occupants of the semaphore and the local population lived together peacefully until 1944, when 33 patriots were massacred.

In the last days of July 1944, as American troops approached, German troops tried to reach the Lorient or Brest pockets by road.
As events unfolded, around fifty men asked to surrender. Only one committed suicide by shouting ‘Heil, Hitler’ rather than surrender and was buried on the spot. The prisoners were housed in the village hall until the Allies arrived.

But the two German garrisons, having found the roads blocked, returned to their point of departure and, learning of the surrender of their comrades at Créac'h Maoût, decided to free them.
Faced with this threat, it was decided to bring back the prisoners from Créac'h Maoût to avoid a probable bombardment of the town of Pleubian or the taking of hostages.

The fighting took place on 4, 5, 6 and 7 August, but the resistance was not as well armed to face such intensive bombardment and the semaphore was retaken by the Ile à Bois garrison.
The resistance fighters taken prisoner were all horribly massacred.
A total of 33 victims are inscribed on the monument erected there.
The criminals fled in the night and surrendered to the Americans two days later.
